Case Study #5: Facility Traffic Monitoring - Major Commercial Middle Eastern Company

Owning several large facilities in Saudi Arabia, a large Middle Eastern company needed a highly accurate method to track automobiles that entered and exited their facilities. An acceptable solution would need to function under a variety of environmental and poor visual quality conditions. Using visual inspection, card key systems, or RFID tags were not feasible choices based on the anticipated vehicle volume and non-employee traffic.

The company installs Arabic license plate recognition systems at each facility entrance using NovoDynamics' Arabic License Plate Recognition (ALPR) module and a third-party traffic monitoring system. As automobiles drive past the traffic monitoring cameras, digital license plate images are captured and then enhanced and read by NovoDynamics' ALPR module. After the license plate number is converted to computer text, the license plate number is transferred to the company's central security system.

Using NovoDynamics' ALPR module, which offers advanced image clean up technology and superior Middle Eastern language optical character recognition (OCR) capabilities, the company is able to monitor large volumes of both employee and non-employee automobile traffic with high recognition accuracy.
